The first official trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is finally here, teasing at the origin story of Mad Max: Fury Road's titular Imperator.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland, the film follows a young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) after she is taken from her home in the Green Place of Many Mothers. Now in the hands of Warlord Dementus' Biker Horde, Furiosa is soon caught in the conflict between her abductors and The Immortan Joe, ruler of the Citadel and Fury Road villain.

Of course, Furiosa is more concerned with surviving and finding her way back home than fighting their war. Unfortunately, anyone who has seen Fury Road will know that Furiosa is unlikely to have a completely happy ending.

This glimpse of Furiosa does appear to rely on CGI more heavily than its predecessor — Mad Max: Fury Road famously preferred practical effects where possible, and was all the better for it. In comparison, Furiosa doesn't look great. But either way, it will probably be an entertaining ride.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will fang it into theatres on May 24, 2024.
